Hull
1990 Mako 211 FWC Law Enforcement Version. This model weighed 1000lbs more than the recreational version when it left the factory due to the beefed up stringers, transom and fiberglass all around. This specific boat weighed 3602 lbs when it was manufactured and was rated for a 250 HP engine. If you do any research on these boats, you will find that they are tanks. See classicmako.com
The boat was fully restored and completed in June 2021. All original electrical components, fuel system, screws, hoses, etc were replaced.
Transom wood was completely removed from the inside of the vessel and replaced with 1.5 inch Coosa. The Coosa has a total of 7 layers of alternating 1708 and 1808 fiberglass on the inside and another 7 layers on the outside where the notch was filled in.
Aft 5 feet of stringers were replaced with Coosa. The FWC version has 3 much taller stringers than the recreational version. These are 9 to 12 inches tall and 1.5 inches thick. The new stringers run through the transom and make up the sidewalls to the engine bracket. They support most, if not all, of the engine weight. The stringers have 6 layers of 1708 around them which also tab them into the hull. All of the soaked foam was removed from inside the hull from bow to stern.
The aft 5 feet of deck and gunwales were removed to replace the transom and they were replaced with a PVC core wrapped in fiberglass. The entire deck is rock solid. The aft battery, oil, and storage boxes were all removed giving a HUGE amount of work space behind the livewell. Two long storage lockers with sealed lids were installed on each side of the bilge area below deck.
The boat is self bailing through drains on the deck. There are 2 inch scuppers on the transom that sit above the water line at stand still. Both scuppers are Gemlux and have one way duckbill valves installed so the deck will not take on water if the scupper is below the waterline when a few people stand in the back of the boat or when trailer launching.
Only the highest quality Epoxy Resin was used in the the entire rebuild.
New 70 Gallon Poly Fuel tank and hoses were installed. The boat gets 140-170 miles range from a full tank of gas. The entire fuel system is brand new and meets or exceeds all Coast Guard standards.
Bronze drain plug was moved from the transom to the keel to maximize drainage. The plug can be installed from the inside for trailer and boat lift users OR from the outside if you keep the boat at a marina. The only other thruhull below the water line is the 1 inch strained raw water pickup in the garboard for the livewell. It has a bronze seacock that is easily accessible from the bilge area access hatch.
The boat is painted inside and out with Awlgrip 545 primer then AwlCraft 2000 in Jet black and a flattened Snow White.
The rub rail is TACO SuproFlex 2 inch with Chrome Insert.
SeaDek was custom made and installed by Castaway Customs in a teak pattern using Camel and Black colors.
Engine Bracket and Swim Platform
Sidewalls of the bracket are the boat’s stringers that run through the transom. The sides, bottom, and engine mounting board are 1.5 inch Coosa core with 7 layers of 1708/1808 wrapped around all sides. The swim platform is 3/4” Coosa with 3 layers of 1708 on each side. The bracket is completely hollow for added flotation and has a drain plug which allows it to drain into the bilge area. There are 2, 9 inch service hatches with sealed Armstrong hatch covers that do not allow any water into the bracket.
The swim platform has a 4 step Garelick floating dive ladder that can be removed in 10 seconds for increased fishability.
Engine
2014 Yamaha F250XA with 1250 hours starts on first key bump and runs perfect. All 100, 200, 500, 1000 hour intervals services have been completed on schedule. Lower unit was replaced at 900 hours. At 1200 hours, I replaced the ALL of the oil seals (including on the drive and prop shaft) in the lower unit. At that time, I inspected the internal gears of the lower unit and everything looked new. A new water pump kit including housing was installed at 1200 hours.
Engine gets 2.2 - 2.4 MPG at 4000 RPM using an OSF4 Prop. Using a 3 blade, it tops out at about 44mph at 5600RPM. Using the OSF4, max speed is about 38MPH at 5200RPM and cruise is 30 at 4000RPM.
All engine rigging is new.
Engine is custom painted using Awlgrip 545 Primer and Awlcraft 2000 in Snow White.
Seastar Helm pump, steering wheel, and all hydraulic hoses are brand new. The steering ram has new seals.
Safety - Coast Guard Required or Recommended.
8 x Life jackets
1 x Throwable PFD
Marine Fire Extinguisher
Whistle (redundant to main horn)
Sealed Pack of Flares
First Aid Kit
2 Oversized Danforth anchors with appropriate chain and rode.
1 spare Danforth anchor.
Electrical
All wiring is brand new Ancor brand. I chose 1 gauge measurement thicker than recommend for every device so that a higher draw component can be added if wanted without replacing the wiring to that component or getting any voltage drop. All wire terminals are heat shrink wrapped and sprayed with anti corrosion.
There are 2 Interstate Marine batteries in battery boxes in the console that power the boat. The BlueSea Systems Main switch with m-ACR charges both batteries at the same time when the engine is running but separates the batteries automatically when one has lower voltage than the other. This insures you always a starting battery without having to worry about switching from 1 to 2 to ALL like the Perco switches. Everything is done automatically. The switch and m-ACR are installed at the helm instead of in the console so it is easy to check system status. The ACR is wired so it does not draw ANY power when the switch is in the OFF position. Each side of the m-ACR has a 60 AMP BlueSea Systems circuit breaker.
There is a 70 AMP Circuit Breaker between the main switch and the main fuse panel. All circuits also have an individual fuse within the BlueSea Fuse Box. All Ground wires go to to a BlueSea bus bar in the console.
Backlit switch panel was custom made by Eric at New Wire Marine. Backlighting turns on when Nav or Anchor Lights are on and is blue, matching the rest of the boat’s lighting.
Shmitt and Ongaro Double Trumpet Horn - This is LOUD and will get everyone’s attention. Mounted under the T-Top to prevent water intrusion and corrosion.
Bennett Bolt 12 x 12 Electric (not Hydraulic) Trim Tabs that are controlled at the main switch panel. They are one size bigger than recommended for this size hull.
2 Bilge Pumps with separate automatic float switches. These are wired independently for redundancy and can be replaced very easily. They each have a helm switch - AUTO-OFF-MAN. The outputs are pumped out through independent Gemlux Stainless thruhulls high on the port gunwale and are easily visible form the cockpit.
BlueSea Systems 4.8 Amp waterproof USB Charging port for charging your phone. Phone magnet mount above the helm.
Lights
2 x Lumitec RGB Multicolor Underwater Lights.
6 x Lumitec Blue Courtesy Cabin Lights
3 x very bright waterproof Spot/Flood lights mounted under the T top to prevent water intrusion. 2 FWD, 1 AFT. These are great for illuminating channel markers or the aft deck when working.
TACO Marine - Navigation lights that are recessed into the rub rail.
Attwood Foldable Anchor Light
Sound
Kenwood 1600 Watt 5 Channel Marine Amplifier
4 x 150 Watt Hertz Marine Speakers
1 x JL Audio Marine M3 Subwoofer
WetSounds waterproof USB dongle. Just connect your phone via bluetooth and play your music. You control everything from your phone so no head unit needed.
Freshwater System
15 gallon tank
Jabsco 3 GPM pump
Expanding hose stored in a compartment in the livewell easily reaches every corner of the boat.
Livewell
Made by Manny at Competition Boats.
Blue LED at the bottom of the livewell matches the cabin lighting.
30 gallon tub filled by a Johnson pump takes about 15 - 20 min to fill from empty. If the valves are open, the tub will fill and circulate water without the pump while the boat is moving.
The pump lays in the bilge instead of on top of the seacock to prevent accidental breakage.
The tub has main and overflow drains that drain just above the waterline on the port side.
Powder Coated Rocket Launcher and flip up bolster seats are custom made.
T Top and Cosole
Hardtop is made of PVC sheet painted with Awlgrip.
Frame is original and was sandblasted and powder coated.
Console is original and has huge storage inside the hinged forward seat.
Forward Seating is new and has a synthetic core (no wood).
The boat shades are 5’ x 7’ for the stern and 7’ x 7’ for the bow. Installation takes 2-3 minutes per section. They provide tons of shade for everyone on board and can be configured to provide shade from the side as well. Both boat shades can be used on the beach/sand bar instead of the boat with provided sand anchors.
Electronics and Instrumentation
Standard Horizon Marine Radio with distress button and 10 foot Shakespeare Antenna.
Raymarine a125 and a7 MFDs. Both screens are 2015-16 models but were brand new when installed in 2021.
Sounders/Transducer Modules - Airmar P58, CPT-100 Raymarine Downvision, CPT-200 Raymarine Sidevision.
Charts - Navionics Platinum Plus Southeast - activated July 28, 2021 and expires July 28, 2022.
Networks -
RayNet - Chart and Sounders are connected through RayNet network on the boat so all information is available on both screens and the phone app.
NMEA 2000 - Yamaha engine is connected via custom NMEA 2000 network so all engine data is displayed on the screens. Yamaha gauges are not needed. Fuel Consumption and estimated fuel remaining can be calculated using engine data by the MFD. NMEA 2000 network is easily expandable to include more devices. There is a separate and independent Faria analog fuel gauge connected to fuel tank sender for redundancy.
